Getting to Rome by Sea
Rome’s closest port, Civitavecchia, is located at Molo Vespucci, 00053, Civitavecchia (tel: 0766 366 201) or visit www.port-of-rome.org . The port is operated by the Autorita Portuale Di Civitavecchia and offers facilities such as a waiting room, lost luggage sections, a bar and ATMS.
There are a few companies that offer ferry and hydrofoil services to and from Sardinian Ports. The main ones are Tirrenia Navigazione (tel: 02 2630 2803) or visit www.terrenia.it , Moby Lines (tel: 02 7602 8132 or 199 303 040) or by visiting www.mobylines.it. The other company is Sardinia ferries (tel 199 400 500) or visit www.corsicaferries.com
Transport to the city from the Port offers a few options. There is a free shuttle bus that takes ferry passengers to the train station, and only takes a few minutes. Once at the station, a train to Rome costs €7 for a first class ticket, or €4.50 for second class. The journey takes around an hour. If you prefer you can take a taxi and this costs around €100. There are often taxis waiting outside the port, but if not, most taxis will come out on call. Your hotel might also send a taxi to the port to collect you and this is sometimes a cheaper option.
